Salahpur residents still crippled without electricity

The dalit suburban of Salahpur in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh houses 1000 people. Communities like dalits, gaud & vishwakarma live here. These 1000 people have never witnessed electricity in the leisure of their own homes. 67 years post independence, electricity remains a dream for the people of Salahpur.

The most troubled by the absence of electricity are the farmers & the students. Light from a lamp is insufficient to study, while their laptops & mobiles remain a piece of non-usable furniture. They have to travel to the city to get these appliances charged for any use. Kavita, a student from Salahpur received a laptop from the government on clearing her intermediate exams(12th standard) but cannot use it since their is no electricity supplied to her village. The farmers need electricity to do a number of tasks like watering the fields, irrigating & other farming requirements. Electricity would make their life & work easier. But since their is no electricity, they are forced to continue practicing old techniques of farming. The community's development has been stagnant since independence. There are generations who haven't even seen or experienced electricity. Government of India's rural electrification scheme is supposed to provide distant villages & regions of India with the power of electricity. Slaahpur is neither distant nor new and the residents deserve the benefits of electricity.
