No compensation for lost land in 1994

In Maharashtra, between Manwani and Bhadal, many houses & villages have drowned since 1994. The government hasn't done anything to help these people. 33 villages in Maharashtra, 19 villages in Gujarat and 193 villages of Madhya Pradesh have been displaced due to the Sardar Sarovar Dam project. More than 2,50,000 people have lost their land in these three states. According to Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal, if anyone's house gets washed off in the river, the government needs to make arrangements for an alternate land and a house to relocate people.

'All we want is land in exchange of our lost lands, but we haven't received anything. The Government tells us that we haven't lost our lands because it is out of the project boundaries'.

- Did you lose your house in 1994?
- Yes.
- Can you show me where your land was?
- It was right there.
- Who else lived in your neighborhood?
- Our whole village has lost their houses comprising of nearly 23 families.
- Where do you live now?
- We have shifted to the lands atop hillocks around here.
- Do you cultivate your land?
- Yes.
- Do you sustain yourselves with your current yield?
- No. We need to depend on other provisions like government ration supply, etc.
33 villages in Maharashtra have been affected by the Sardar Sarovar project, where officials from the Narmada Bachao and government officials conducted a survey and found out that nearly 791 people had to be rehabilitated.

'People from our village in Maharashtra have to go to Gujarat in search of work. They earn their living in other states and come back home to give the money to their families'.

Correspondent Chetan appeals to the viewers to help people from Nandurbar, Maharashtra, who have been displaced by the Sardar-Sarovar project to get rehabilitated. Please call the Additional Collector on +91-9422206040 and ask him to provide adequate compensation to all those who lost their land.
