Nashik Villagers Urge For A Good Road

While the city of Nashik is vigorously contesting to become a Smart City, Swapnil Shinde, a primary school of Nashik district walks and stumbles on a dirt road to reach the main road, from where he goes to school which is 12 km away from his village.

"Since 2007, we have been filing complaints with the concerned administration, that this road is fixed," says Anand Pagare, the resident of Sayane Bk village, in Malegaon Taluka of Nashik district as well as former community correspondent with Video Volunteers. As of 2016, the authorities have constructed only 3 km of this stretch which has disintegrated due to the shoddy work which was undertaken by the contractor. Anand's video report has visual evidence of the road peeling off! The lack of roads is hindering the local economy, education of aspiring youth , everyday necessities and access to medical amenities.

According to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, it costs between Rs. 10 lakh to 20 lakh for constructing a kilometer of road in rural India. Based on this estimate, the 3 km road must have cost approximately Rs. 1 crore of public money.

Let's call the District Collector of Nashik, Maharashtra on +91-2532578500 and demand that he mend broken roads so that Swapnil and his friends can get to school easily.
