In October 2013 Cyclone Phailin swept across the Eastern coast of Odisha leaving large parts of the state devastated. Four months later many of the survivors continue to wait for compensation promised by the government.

Nuaratnapura village looks like a scene out of a travel documentary-- a river that meanders its way to the Bay of Bengal, the rolling fields. The cyclone submerged all 2500 acres of its cultivable land in sea water and destroyed standing crops.
Nityananda Prusti a farmer from the village lost the crops he had sown on six acres of land. "The Revenue Inspector said he would come but still hasn't", he says.
All 160 families of the village are completely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. There seems to be no compensation in sight.
