MNREGA Scheme Still Ineffective

Beneficiaries of the MNREGA scheme in Atara, Chhattisgarh are being paid erratically and irregularly.

Bhan Sahu is passionate about exposing the injustices faced by the poor and marginalized in her community, especially the tribal populations in her area. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was set up five years ago to improve the livelihood security of rural inhabitants by guaranteeing a hundred days in a year of paid employment for unskilled labour. In her video today, she shows how the families who are meant to benefit from the scheme are suffering from the endemic corruption rife in the system – delayed payments, bank complications, improper distribution of funds. Bhan Sahu bemoans the state of affairs, especially since it has been five years since the scheme was implemented.
