| The agricultural land that the farmers were in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra, given by the administration was not a well irrigated land. Therefore, administration had constructed well worth Rs. 3 lakh 46 thousand for the farmers to fetch water from this well. However it didn’t have any water level or any electricity supply to the pole near the well to fetch water using pump. The contractor was earlier indirectly asking for bribe from farmers to set up the irrigation supply. The contractors somehow grabbed their profit with the help of corrupt officials but the farmers were left in problem with no irrigation supply. Along with the construction of well, the electricity department had installed meters and poles in every house. But no power was provided. What added to the troubles of these farmers were the huge bills they were getting without any electricity connection. Community correspondent Chetan who belongs to the same village decided to change the situation for these farmers and made an issue video. CC being associated with the people’s movement filmed this issue. CC collected evidence and approached the executive engineer with the problem. The officials set up an enquiry and went to the village to investigate the matter. They realized that the farmers truly didn’t have any electricity connection. Following this the huge electricity bills of 5 farmers including Rama koyta and babu gambya of INR.2.52 lakhs and INR. 70,000 respectively were nullified by the department. |
