Many poor people in Bihar are facing problems in getting Below Poverty Line cards owing to political interference by those wielding power in Panchayats or town committees. The only hope for the residents of Darbetola village is that their plight has been noticed by VV-PACS Community Correspondent Navita from Bihar. After talking to residents Navita got to know that in spite of submitting applications several times 6 months ago, the voice of this community remains unheard. "I have difficulties getting access to food. I don't even have a proper house" says Bilo Masomat BPL cards are the most important asset for most of these individuals. It makes them eligible for government schemes like access to food grains, subsidies, housing, etc. In these villages, remnants of economic havoc from the 1990s (Lalu Prasad Yadav's rule) continues to make them vulnerable to poverty. The local administration’s ineptness only adds to their misery.
