Maren Schmid

I am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany. I have a strong academic background in communication research. I have recently interned at a media research company in Germany for five months where I gained knowledge on empirical methods of data collection. In my free time I work as a journalist for a local newspaper, since the last three years as well as for the campus radio station of my city.

I am particularly interested in exploring the impact that the Internet can have on politics and social change. I have joined Video Volunteers because I want to get new insights on media journalism and how different communities around the world use it for change. On a personal level, I also want to feel inspired by journalism again.

My ambition is to develop myself in a professional and also personal way by learning as much as possible about Indian culture, society and media. Since the first time I’ve set foot into Video Volunteers’s office I feel intrigued by people’s passion, video content produced by the community correspondents and the many things about rural India.
