At this time, all donations received are going towards COVID relief and rehabilitation. In mid-2021, India was recording the highest number of COVID cases and deaths anywhere in the world. Video Volunteers grassroots network of #VV Covid Warriors have been on-the-ground in 200 of the most hard-to-reach districts of the country, responding to this health and livelihoods crisis.
In the first wave in 2020, we delivered aid to 91,000 families, and set up 150 WhatsApp Action Groups at the community level to create new pathways for citizens to reach officials and organize themselves during a lockdown. Through a talk show and daily ground reports updated on our YouTube channel we created one of the largest journalistic repositories of ground stories on COVID. In 2021, this work is continuing at full force.
WHAT WE’RE DOING:
Frontline health and sanitation workers are putting their lives at risk during this pandemic. Most work without any PPE. This is unacceptable. We want to provide 10,000 PPE kits to frontline workers, community volunteers and families of COVID patients.
> 10,000 kits @ Rs.100/$1.35 per kit = $13,500
We are reaching food supplies to marginalized and vulnerable communities who are worst hit by the lockdowns. What we are able to do is not enough. Please support us to provide for 10,000 families.
> 10,000 families @ $13.70 (for 15 days worth of food) = $137,000
We have helped set up a 10 bed isolation centre in Walhe village, Pune, where 24 people have recently died of COVID. We are expanding it to a 40 bed Covid Care Centre with oxygen that will cater to 30,000 people.
Video Volunteers is busting myths related to the covid vaccine and working to counter disinformation through a partnership with The Quint and The Google News initiative. We seek your support to scale up this to reach 15 million people across 200 districts.
> $15 x 150 CCs x 2 months = $4500
