Displacement- Pretend Promises, Damaged Dreams

“They said so many things before uprooting us, but did not fulfill their promises.”

This is the case for residents of Turitola village, who were uprooted from their homes in the name of development but not given adequate compensation.

Call to Action:Help them now!

Prakash Chanda, General Manager, East Parej Mining Project, Mundu Block, Jharkhand, Tel: +91 8987784281.

VV-Correspondent Basanti Soren reports from Turitola village, Mandu block, Ramgarh, Jharkhand where residents are being cheated in the name of development.

Anita Devi, resident, “They promised us electricity, roads, a water hand pump and a basket weaving business.”

The residents were given a well, but it dried up soon afterleaving them with no other option but to travel up to 1 km to the nearby town of Ulhara to fetch water.  On top of this the basket weaving business they were promised only lasted 3-4 months.  Then the organisers went away leaving the residents with no means of  a livelihood.  The roads promised to them were also not constructed.

“We feel almost like they just wanted to get rid of us.”

Change is possible.  Communities can be the beneficiaries to the promises they were made.  VV-PACS Community Correspondent Mahesh Kumar’s video from Ambai Bujurga, Kara Block, Uttar Pradesh shows how community activism with media footage and your support can bring real change.

Your help is needed now.  Help the displaced residents of Turitola village receive the basic infrastructure and means to livelihood now!  Call the number above.
