the reclusive Rabha community is well known for their reluctance to move too far from home, so Sushima was a rarity by dint of being the only Rabha woman willing to explore the idea of IndiaUnheard. She is a resident of a tiny forest village in Mongalkhata, Jalpaiguri, and works odd jobs as a manual labourer to help her family make ends meet. Her uncle recently introduced her to the Forest Rights movement spearheaded by Uttar Banga Ban Jan Shram Jeevi Manch (Himalayan Forest Villagers’ Organization) and she enjoys effectively documenting the issues of her community.
