Jyoti Bairagi from Mandala, Madhya Pradesh comes from a tribal community that follows the doctrines of Saint Kabir, a mystic poet who preached equality, justice and love above all. She is peeved that the followers of this figure of peace and enlightenment condone practices like the exchange of dowry. It’s not only the problems within the community that she wishes to speak out against but also the lack of education, sanitation, potable water and the fact that the politicians only seem to arrive, appear concerned and make promises when the elections are due.
