The writer and communications officer will primarily work with and for Voicelogue’s network partner and client Video Volunteers (VV). He/she will have the overall responsibility for furthering VV’s reach by writing engaging content about our impact and creating content for day to day publishing on VV’s social media platforms.

Please note the emphasis of the role is more on writing than social media. Strong ability to write attention-grabbing taglines and headlines in a conversational, engaging voice are key criteria.

Writing

Write 4-6 articles a month for VV’s website that talk about VV’s impact, program innovations and projects.
Write one monthly newsletter/e-blast.
Assist in writing funding proposals.
Interview Community Correspondents to create case studies about the Correspondents or their impact.

Social Media
Write content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Whatsapp groups, and upload content to these platforms.
Develop short social media campaigns to raise the profile of particularly important stories.
Maintain photo albums from internal and external trainings, workshops, competitions & festivals and field visits. Categorize and curate the best photos for (annual) reports, newsletters, social media etc. Implement a strategy to get good photos from the field.
Oversee documentation for the annual report, including photo bank and produced content.
Update the website with profiles of community correspondents.
Write Press Releases as and when required.
Translation and subtitling of videos into English as and when required.
Maintain records of partnerships and discerning trends for (annual) reports, etc.

Coordination with Community Correspondents (CC) network and partner organizations
Build a culture of learning and sharing on Whatsapp groups by nurturing it as a space for sharing regular updates to and for the CCs, challenges and solutions. Monitor them and follow up on information and photographs that CCs share. Also ensure that the WhatsApp code of conduct is followed, respond to queries when necessary.
Coordinate distribution of stories to our online distribution partners and assist in developing and managing media partnerships to get VV’s’ work maximum visibility.

Qualifications / Experience:
Approximately 10 years of experience.
Past experience must either be in NGO communications or marketing.
Excellent writing skills.
Be able to communicate well with both internal and external audiences.
Must have a basic familiarity with web management and social media platforms, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube.
Must have an excellent understanding of news cycles as well as social issues in the country, especially the ones that VV works on.
Speaks and reads fluent Hindi and English.
Working knowledge of WordPress and experience in advertising is a plus.
Fair knowledge in Google tools such as Google analytics, Ad words, and SEO and Digital Marketing tools.
Be a Graduate (Master’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience) in the area of journalism/ communications/social science/ human rights/ international development or related fields.

Personal characteristics

Apart from excellent writing skills the writer and communications officer should be a strong team player, understanding the key value of collective ownership and being able to perform in a mature and open minded way of working. Time management is a key requirement. The officer will not only contribute through his/her skills and capacities, a pleasant and empathic personality is equally important. Depending on the experience of the applicant, there may be a possibility of splitting the full time role above into two part-time roles.
