Video Volunteers (VV) is an international community media organization that believes that who tells the story is as important as what the story is. Our vision is for a world where communities can use video and social media to celebrate local culture and right the wrongs they witness. The research, training materials, video productions and models that we have devised for hyperlocal media have been a key part of spreading the community media movement globally and critiquing the current mainstream media situation that emphasizes one way communication and the profit motive rather than community agency and local control. Voicelogue Private Limited is a private limited company and a service partner to Video Volunteers. This position will be on the rolls of Voicelogue and work primarily on VV contracts/projects.
The primary aim for this position is to use social media, letters, petitions and phone calls to expand the audience for Video Volunteers’ videos to include those in positions of authority such as government officials and policy makers and civil society, who can use these videos to help improve lives of communities.
Engage government functionaries, departments and leaders on social media for select videos and issues, to help them understand the issues of communities and find ways that these officials can make better use of positive social change media that is circulating in their areas.
Create a specified number of change.org petitions in a quarter on issues that can get traction and policy change and promote them.
Create training materials for specific groups of Correspondents so they can directly engage officials in their social work.
Write a specified number of physical letters to state and national organizations and commissions about the issues and possible solutions raised by specific Correspondents.
Write a specified number of research based articles in a quarter on select issues either using combination of videos or a single video covering an important issue
Collaborate with local organizations connected to the Community Correspondents for creating social media campaigns
Engage Social Media influencers to be ‘ambassadors’ of our network.
Advise Correspondents on their advocacy strategies.
Participate as an active member of the communications and training teams, assisting in the social media campaigns as needed.
3 to 7 years of experience in the NGO field, ideally in a communications role
Very strong and demonstrable social media presence and voice
Strong understanding of social media change campaigns and its components.
Excellent English writing skills
Excellent Hindi reading and speaking skills
Understanding of rural realities and community-led development
Ability to multitask and keep track of various deliverables and projects
Knowledge of Excel, PPT and other office suite.
Location: This role can be performed remotely but preference will be given to candidates who are willing to relocate to Goa. At the moment though, in light of the COVID situation we are working from home.
Salary: INR 30,000 to INR 50,000 per month depending on the experience
