A Shroud of White: OCL’s Dusty Trail

The lives of 20,000 people across 17 villages in Kutra block of Sundergarh district, Odisha, are troubled by pollution caused by the Orissa Cement Limited's stone crushers. IndiaUnheard Community Correspondent, Halomuni, reports from the region on the dangers of this dust cloud. “Dust settles on our crops and coats our houses. We inhale it on a daily basis and it affects our health”, says Magritah Kulung. When the people of Lanjiberna village protested, OCL promised to address the situation within 15 days. However, nothing came of this. The people of Sundergarh District continue to live in these dangerous conditions. "We used to live a happy life. We want that back. We want things to be the way they used to be", says Magritah. Call to Action: To help rectify the present situation, please call Rupa Rasan Sahoo, the District Collector, on 09439773964.
