Video Volunteers’ partner Drishti has several openings in its Community Media program.

Drishti is a media, arts and human rights organization that has transformed the communications strategies of leading Indian NGOs and social movements. Drishti’s documentary films on human rights issues have been seen throughout the world, and its training programs for grassroots communities have empowered thousands of rural people. Drishti and Video Volunteers are expanding their joint award-winning program of creating ‘Community Media Units’ and training ‘Community Media Producers’, and Drishti is recruiting new staff in several areas. Location: Most positions will be based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The Executive Producer and the Web Manager could be based elsewhere, depending upon experience. Video Trainer positions will be based in rural areas around India.

Executive Producer/Outreach Manager
Responsible for building links between our 75 Community Video Producers and mainstream television, including developing television pilots, and marketing the concept of ‘community media’ to senior television executives. This is a job for someone with extensive experience in mainstream media and proven creative ability.

Partnerships Manager
Will manage relationships with new NGO partners, as Drishti expands the number of partnerships it has with new NGOs to launch community media programs. Would be responsible for developing new relationships with NGOs and creating a communications strategy for our community media program. The ideal person will have great communication skills, the ability to inspire, and extensive experience in NGOs or marketing.

Video Trainers
Will train community members in all aspects of video production for 18 months, based in a rural area. A great job for someone interested in building their production reel, in telling stories of poverty and development, and working creatively with communities. You must be able to show a reel of videos you have shot and edited yourself.

Community Video Coordinator, Community Radio Coordinator (2 positions)
The coordinators oversee the training, impact assessment and production of the community radio program and the community video program. The ideal candidate will have a background in NGO program management and an interest in media.

Research/Documentation Officer
Will manage all research for Drishti’s community media program, including the impact of our work, international movements in community media, and legislative areas. Requires at least three years experience in and NGO and excellent writing abilities in English.

Web Manager, Video Editor, and Graphic Designer (1-3 positions)
The ideal candidate will have at least basic skills in two, if not three, of these fields:

Web management: We have recently built Channel 19, the first online channel entirely dedicated to community produced content. In 2008, we seek to build in features where Community Producers make content for the website, like cell phone videos, blogging, and campaigns. The Web Manager would have the skills to turn this into a pre-eminent media destination on the web and would also have an interest in working directly with communities, as a trainer. Would also manage all Drishti/Video Volunteers websites.
Video Editing: Video editing responsibilities include creating DVDs of community media products and shortening and subtitling community media films.
Graphic Design: creating posters, DVD covers and other media required by our partners.

Film Screenings Coordinator
Drishti runs the “Nazariya” film clubs in 21 Ahmedabad colleges as part of its peace promotion process with youth. The Screenings Coordinator will organize and conduct film screenings and assist in all aspects of the Nazariya Program.

Administrative Officer
This person will support all Drishti staff. Responsibilities include managing the office, booking tickets, keeping minutes of meetings, managing all correspondence. Good written and spoken English a must.
