After an exhaustive search, Video Volunteers received 243 applications for our new Community Journalism program. It has taken us many weeks, but we are now happy to announce an initial list of 36 selected community members to engage in the initial phase of the program.
Applicants ranged from Andamans & Nicobar Islands to Anantnag in Jammu & Kashmir and again from Moreh along the Myanmar border to Bikaner in Rajasthan. It was an overwhelming response to say the least, and a difficult decision-making process to find the best suited candidates for our first phase. Because of certain limitations we had to make hard decisions, within our constraint of only taking on fellows who spoke Hindi and/or English, and having internet access no less than one hour away, we worked to find the most diverse group, representing communities even in difficult and remote locations.
We believe our initial 36 fellows will provide a great representation for much of India, from all over the country. We would also like to thank each individual applicant for showing interest in the fellowship and taking time to apply. We know this has been a long selection process and are grateful for your patience.
Finally, we must announce that there are a few key areas we have not found any suitable candidates, and are hoping all of you may be able to assist us in these areas. In Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mizoram, and Sikkim no suitable candidate was found. If you know of someone, please write to info (at) videovolunteers (dot) org with the subject line “new vividh candidate.” We are not considering applicants from any other areas so please hold additional applications for now, we will announce another selection round in the future.
