Media Trainer

The media trainers are the heart and soul of the community media program. You impart skills you have learned as a filmmaker and use them to empower others with a voice and a livelihood. The successful candidate will be responsible for training rural women in all aspects of community media, including radio, video and sms reporting. People VV trains learn to be powerful communicators, journalists, filmmakers, and advocates and leaders in their communities. If you are a video/film maker experienced in teaching/training and interested in working with the underprivileged communities in India then do read on. Though prior experience in video training is preferred, VV will also provide training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit community women for training
  • Train the women in all technical aspects of Video Production—shooting, editing, and scripting, according to the Video Volunteers training module, after receiving one month of intensive training at VV in Goa
  • Train Community Producers in human rights, communications, community participation, public speaking and video screening
  • Creatively devise new strategies for the programs to create maximum impact on the community
  • Coordinate with the local NGOs and partners with which the community media program is associated, to understand and integrate their communications needs into the strategy
  • Creating impact strategies for increasing scale and reach, improving screenings and ‘calls to actions’ of the films
  • Deal directly with community members to encourage participation, handle conflicts and communicate the purpose of community-produced media
  • Repurpose media produced by the communities for other audiences

Qualifications

  • Proficient in all aspects of video production–shooting, writing and non-linear editing
  • Must have 4 to 5 years of experience in filmmaking
  • Demonstrated experience working with grassroots communities, not just as subjects of films
  • Candidates with experience of working in human rights or development organization will be preferred
  • Must have shot, written and edited your own videos
  • Must have strong creative and storytelling abilities
  • Must have leadership qualities to motivate and lead
  • Must have great communications skills and a desire to work with communities
  • Must be willing to travel to remote, rural area for sizeable amounts of time
  • Must be proficient in writing and reading English, Hindi and third language preferable
  • Must show a reel of work you have shot, written and edited on your own
